Northlake Public Library District

Northlake, Illinois

As a gem of the community, the Northlake Public Library has expanded substantially since Dennis Avelar first visited in the late 1980’s.

Author Dennis Avelar first learned to love and appreciate books, movies, and stories of al kinds because of the access he had to the immense catalogue available at the Northlake Public Library District. Each visit to the library was a positive experience, which is how the Mission of The Blue Q was initially born.

”What if we could create this same level of access and positivity for children who would otherwise never experience it?” It took over 35 years to answer this question, and though we have yet to realize our dream, we have begun the process of doing so by creating an unforgettable story.

- How does the book’s availability at the Northlake Public Library District help the Mission of The Blue Q?

Unbeknownst to us until long after The Blue Q was published, the Northlake Public Library District served as both the pilot by which we wish to expand our mission. It is an absolute honor to know that The Blue Q is available at the same library that launched our journey, and that it is accessible among so many other fascinating titles. A young boy from Stone Park, with a creative mind and a library card, grew up to achieve something he never thought possible. Our mission is to help recreate that same possibility in the lives of others, and we could not think of a better place to begin our lifelong quest than from this library.

The larger gentleman in this pic, though he is a HUGE proponent of literacy, questioned why the title was Blue and not green :)
